Royal Yacht Brokers at the Antigua Charter Yacht Show 2018
The 57th edition of the Antigua Yacht Show
This year marked the 57th edition of the Antigua Yacht Show featuring more than 90 yachts in three marinas, Antigua Yacht Club Marina, Falmouth Harbour Marina and Nelson’s Dockyard Marina. Taking place on this idyllic Caribbean island, it is a crucial point of reference in the world of charter where 5 days are dedicated to yacht viewings and the 5th day is known as ‘Sail Day’. This initiative provides visiting brokers with the chance to experience a ‘micro-charter’ around the stunning waters of Antigua.
The show reflects on a vast array of yacht culture, types and sizes. From broker lunches onboard to the latest accessories available to enhance onboard lifestyle for charter guests.
The event as a whole equips brokers with first-hand knowledge of the Caribbean charter fleet, the Captains, crew and other industry innovations, ensuring that they are better prepared to help their client plan a luxury yacht charter in the region. Marking the start of the Caribbean cruising Season, Antigua’s trade-only event brings together brokers and other industry professionals keen to view the very best superyachts available for charter in the region.
There are also plenty of chances to network and socialise. A busy schedule includes cocktail parties, evening yacht hops, seminar sessions and onboard lunches.
Another key component is the culinary contest. Now in its 19th year, the competition sees superyacht chefs going head to head trying to wow the judges with their expert culinary creations. This year the theme was ‘A New Years Eve Dinner Party’ and stewards and stewardesses got involved in a tablescaping competition.
27 chefs, across 3 categories, were bold enough to take on the challenge at this year’s Culinary Contest. 64.92m motor yacht ETERNITY celebrated a double victory receiving both the Chef’s prize and the Tablescaping award. Chef Micail Swindells of 77.42m GO was a close second and Chef David Pearson of 55.78m GALAXY took third place. Chef Megan Ross of 78.33m AMARYLLIS also received an honourable mention.
